Every once in while life offers up some pretty amazing opportunities. This weekend was one of those for me. Jo and I were just talking about how we haven’t had a chance to rest and relax lately, so this weekend was right on time. Our friend Drew pitched the idea of renting and staying at a vacation rental on a winery. So Drew and Maika, Mike and Lisa, and Jo and myself all pitched in for the estate vacation rental on the Gustafson Family Vineyards.
First of all the house was amazing. It was a perfect weekend for spending some time with some very good friends and doing so in a stunningly beautiful location. We also got to meet Drew and Maika’s new baby boy Val. Also during our stay we made a new friend, Rampage, the winery dog. I’ll let the photos do the rest of describing the weekend.
Jo and I ran the Las Vegas Rock & Roll half marathon together. This was my first half marathon and Jo’s fourth now. Jo decided to pass the torch of running as Elvis to Rachel this year. We met with our friends Lori, Rachel, Warren, Mike, Lisa, Drew, Maika, and Zach as well. This is turning into a yearly event which is just a blast. It’s fun to go to Vegas and have something else to do besides gambling the whole time. We can’t wait until next year, in fact I think we’ll be running the Rock & Roll half marathon in Dallas in March.
I also thought I’d post the route we ran since I tracked the run in RunKeeper.
Jo ran in the Las Vegas Rock & Roll half marathon. She and Lori ran dressed as Elvis along with 200 other running Elvi. Mike also ran while Drew, Maika, Lisa, and I provided moral support and cheered them on. Lori picked up the nick name “spice cake” from some spectators. Jo picked up the nick name “lion pass” and Maika is now also known as “hot sauce”. If these require explanation just ask.
I guess next year I’ll be running with them. In fact I think Jo and I will be running in the Big Sur marathon in a few months, probably not the full marathon though.
The weekend of Jo’s birthday some of our best friends stayed with us to help celebrate and make Jo’s 40th special. Drew, Maika, Mike, Lisa, and Lori all stayed with us. We went to an A’s game of course, then it was back to our place for food, drinks, and laughs.
So we spent the day in Napa tasting wines with two of our favorite people, Drew and Maika. We stopped for dinner at this great restaurant, The Rutherford Grill, with a very interesting sculpture of a boar and a crow. I think the second photo is pretty funny. Jo looks like she is cowering in fear of the boar. The first is of Drew and Maika enjoying a glass of wine at the restaurant. We had a great time and ended up staying the night there after drinking wine all day.
Jo and I hosted a little soiree for some of her Mervyn’s coworkers and friends. I think it’s safe to say a fun time was had by all. They are such a fun group.
